The day of the Directorate for Standardization, Codification and Metrology

The day of the Directorate for Standardization, Codification and Metrology UOT SMR MO was officially marked in the presence of representatives of the organizational units of the Ministry of Defense and the Army of Serbia, representatives of the Defense Industry Company, as well as representatives of the Institute for Standardization of Serbia and the Directorate for Measures and Precious Metals of Serbia.

By the decision of the President of the Republic, July 5 is marked as the Day of the Directorate for Standardization, Codification and Metrology. On that day, in 1863, the Artillery Administration of the Ministry of the Army of the Republic of Serbia adopted the first decree concerning the regulation of the field of standardization, that is, the regulation of the catalog of standards - "Administration of all technical institutions constituted by technical bodies". This act was adopted on the basis of the Law of Prince Miloš Obrenović from 1859. Thus, standardization, metrology and the system of labeling funds used in the defense system are in direct and firm relation with the beginnings of Serbia's industrialization, and especially development in the defense industry sector, as a key and inseparable component of development.
Directorate for Standardization, Codification and Metrology UOT SMR MO is the highest professional body in the field of material standardization, performs the tasks of the National Codification Bureau of the Republic of Serbia, and is the central and highest expert body for metrological activities in the field of defense. The Directorate is a unique body in the defense system and in that functional jurisdiction is internationally, nationally and internally for the MoD and the VS.
In the past period, since the establishment, the functional competencies of the Directorate have been fully legitimized through a series of laws, regulations and instructions, international agreements, as well as an agreement with the Institute for Standardization of Serbia and the Directorate for Measures and Precious Metals of Serbia.
In addition to the continuity of growth in the achieved results through quantitative and qualitative indicators, further engagement on improvement of normative regulation, improvement of IT support as well as improvement of other conditions, provides favorable environment for the new cycle of development of functions of material standardization, codification and nomenclature and metrological activities in the field of defense.
